The Oakland Cemetery was built in 1783 as a burial ground for Revolutionary War soldiers; at the time it was known as St. John’s Burial Grounds, a name which stuck for over one hundred years. The graveyard would later be rumored to be haunted, as vandalism ran rampant across the site. Three ghostly women are said to guard the cemetery, generally moving from the hill towards the grounds’ center, to chase away vandals.

St. John's Cemetery still is in existience. Oakland was started in the nineteenth century. All but one Revolutionary War Verterans were buried in St. John's; only one... very young whne he entered the war... is buried in Oakland. You may want to correct this.
