Jack Diamond House
Albany, NY 12210
Jack “Legs” Diamond, also known as Gentleman Jack, was a notorious Irish-American gangster and bootlegger during Prohibition. He was famous for having close brushes with death, having been shot several times without succumbing to his injuries, but while staying in an Albany rooming house in December of 1931 Jack’s enemies were finally able to catch up to him. Two men broke into his room early in the morning; one held him down while the other shot him in the head three times. Since his death, residents in the house have been sporadically awakened late at night by the sound of footsteps and voices coming from the stairs that lead to Diamond’s old room.
