The McClurg Museum was built in 1818 as a home for James McClurg, the son of a wealthy industrialist; it was a large mansion which stood out among the surrounding small homes of other frontier settlers. Visitors say that mansion is haunted by the ghost of a maid who appears from time to time. A group of fourth-grade school children encountered the maid on a field trip to the mansion, describing her as a white shadow that looked to be a girl in her 20s. The maid was seen hiding in a corner, crying.
