Nye Manor Parkhurt House

The Parkhurt House at Nye Manor is a stone building built around 1820 for Army Major Jabez Parkhurst—one of six individuals known to have died in the building. Parkhurst died of natural causes, as did one Genevieve Hays. Parkhurst’s first wife, Fidelia, committed suicide in the front upstairs bedroom in 1849, and three of her children are also confirmed to have died at almost within its walls at almost exactly 9 months old. Another daughter, Caroline, is also alleged to have hanged herself in the house shortly after her own child allegedly died there.

A fire ripped through the building in 1993 and twelve years later it was saved from scheduled demolition when it was purchased by Christopher Nye. Since the purchase, Nye has experienced a swathe of paranormal activity. While exploring the house in the dark, a pair of brand new flashlights both went dead at the exact same time in the library. After failing to locate an access point to the basement, Nye left to buy saw so he could cut his way down; upon returning to the still-empty house he found a hatch to the basement propped open by a stick. While working in the empty house around midnight, Christopher once heard the sound of a female voice saying “hello.” His wife, Shannon, says that she feels suddenly saddened whenever she enters the building, and both have heard mysterious footsteps and doors close of their own accord. Neighbors say that before the Nyes moved in they would sometimes see lights coming from the upper floor, even though the house was boarded up and without electricity.
