The Dakota
New York, NY 10023
Built in 1884 across the street from Central Park, the iconic Dakota apartment building has often found itself in the public eye, though not always for the best of reasons. In 1968 it was the filming site for Roman Polanski’s classic Horror film, “Rosemary’s Baby.” In 1980 John Lennon was tragically shot to death by a deranged fan just outside of the Dakota, where he resided at the time.
In addition to its history and prime location, the Dakota has also become known for ghostly presences. Some say that they have seen the ghost of John Lennon in the building, others have seen the spirit of a sweet little girl. Some have also reported seeing the ghost of a grown man with the face of a young boy.
