St. Paul’s Chapel is an Episcopal church and, having been built in 1764, is the oldest standing church in Manhattan. It is also the burial site of British actor George Frederick Cooke, who died in 1812 and allegedly donated his head to science. Since his burial in the church cemetery, visitors have reported seeing his ghost appear, searching the grounds endlessly for his missing head. His skull is also alleged to have been used as a prop in a production of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.”

Photo of ghost at St Paul’s on June 10/25

During our trip to New York this week we toured the cemetery at St Paul’s. Amazed by all the cool head stones I was taking pictures as I walked through. At one point I noticed a sort of white blur above a headstone in my photo. I stopped and checked the lens on the camera cleaning it off. Trying again the blur was still there and as I swept the camera from side to side it definitely was stronger above the headstone and almost had a light in it at that point. I asked my boyfriend what he thought and he saw the same thing so he cleaned the lense again but it didn’t improve. I think we both knew at this point that I was picking up a ghost. Gave me some goosebumps for sure but was truly a cool experience. In my photo you can see the image and it’s a Live Photo so if you press on it the image changes.
