The New Amsterdam Theatre was built in 1903 and is said to be haunted by the spirit of an actress who once worked there. In 1920 Olive Thomas was in Paris for her second honeymoon when she mistakenly took her husband, Jack Pickford’s mercury bichloride pills; the medication was mean to treat Pickford’s syphilis, but instead took Thomas’ live. Though she died a long way from home, Thomas had a strong connection to the New Amsterdam Theater and her ghost has been known to still appear within its walls, clutching a blue pill bottle. Thomas appears mostly before men, and it is advised that if you see her you stay calm so as not to upset her.
