Mohonk Mountain House
New Paltz, NY 12561
The Monhonk Mountain House is a large hotel and resort surrounded by well manicured gardens and expansive wilderness. Employees have long claimed it to be haunted, though stories of its paranormal happenings are often vague and it is not known why the house might have active spirits. Interestingly, the hotel is rumored to have been the inspiration for the Overlook Hotel in Stephen King’s “The Shining.”

I was staying there for my anniversary about 15 years ago. I couldn’t sleep because the shutters were loudly smacking the windows in the freezing cold below zero wind. Around 3AM I heard a loud screaming baby cry like it was in my room and then it faded as if going away from me. My husband heard nothing and I couldn’t wake him up. I tried to sleep and around 5 am for some weird reason I got in the bath tub and took a bath. I’ve never taken a bath anywhere outside my house before. My husband woke up and said what are you doing? I was like I don’t know! Something or somebody must have wanted me to take a bath! It was the weirdest thing ever. I asked around and nobody heard a baby cry in the middle of the night. It was super freaky!!

My friend was spending time in the HRV in 1996 and befriended the security staff at the mountain house. One night she was walking rounds with her friend when they received a call from a guest in the garden house. The guard entered the room and came out with My five minutes. The first had claimed there was something in the room with her but security noticed nothing out of place. Later that night security received another call from the same guest with the same complaint. Yet again nothing was found in the room after a second examination. The next morning the housekeeper entered the same room and found the guest dea without explanation. Another 10 guests were killed in freakish ways the following two years
