Demarest Building
Warwick, NY 10990
Built in 1863 as the National Hotel, the Demarest Building was originally designed to help Warwick accommodate the influx of travelers who began passing through after the Warwick Valley Railroad was completed. Today it is an office complex which also house boutiques, shops, and restaurants. Visitors say that they can hear ghostly screams coming from the top of the building, but it is not known exactly who or what is haunting the Demarest.

We stayed at the Warwick for three nights in the summer. The first night was "Interesting to say the least!" After we went to bed, the bedside lamp and overhead reading lights kept turning on (at least four times throughout the night.) When we woke up in the morning, we found that our in room coffee maker had turned on and overflowed, spewing water all over the dresser and floor. The coffee maker was not the kind with a timer and neither of us sleep walks or wakes up in the middle of the night turning on random appliances. The following two nights the bedside lamp and reading lights turned on over and over again, but the coffee maker didn't. Very strange stuff!

I recently stayed at the Warwick hotel in midtown NY. I always set my phone alarm for 3 or 4 different times in the morning to make sure I get up. I am visiting from CO, which is 2 hours behind NY. I needed to get up early for a conference across the street. 6:30AM is 4:30AM my time. Getting up early was difficult! I hit snooze frequently. The alarm is loud and super annoying. By the time I’d finally force myself to get up, it had gone off 8 or 9 times. I was staying for 3 nights. On the last morning, my alarm went off as normal. I hit snooze, but this time the light on the other side of the room, which you had to turn on by hand, turned on!! I said out loud “guess it’s time to get up”! Surprisingly I wasn’t freaked out, yet! I sat up, turned all of my alarms off and then turned every light on. I was vacillating back and forth with fear and calmness. I am a devout Christian believer and said, again out loud, but in a quieter voice, “I follow Jesus and he will always win. If you’re an evil spirit get out in the name of Jesus. If you’re a kind spirit you’re scaring me, so please leave”. A calmness came over me and I proceeded with my normal routine. I will say I was still quite unsettled.
Once you walked into my room there was a 15 FTish hallway to where the bed was. You walked down the hallway (part of the room) and then turned left to access the bed. It was tucked back from the hallway. It faced a brick wall of a bldg. there was zero sunlight. It was wonderfully quiet. You couldn’t hear the normal street noise. It was very dark. I turned on every light in the room even when it was the middle of the day. It felt like I was isolated from the rest of the rooms. That made the experience even more scary. I was quite relieved I wasn’t spending another night there!
It wasn’t until I checked out that I started freaking out about what happened. I’ve tried to find anything online that could confirm the hotel has spirits, but can’t find anything. I am 100% convinced there was a spirit of some sort in my room who was annoyed with my excessive alarms after 2 days of it and couldn’t take a 3rd morning of it! It was as clear as day the spirit did not want to deal with it for a 3rd day. ???????

I lived there in one of the rooms upstairs in the early 1980's. At one time I also stayed in a top floor room. It was always very eerie, bad and dated there. There was a murder there in the 1980's of a woman who lived there!! LK
