Hobart and William Smith Colleges
Geneva, NY 14456
Hobart and Williams Smith Colleges trace their history back to 1822 when the Hobart College for men was founded. In 1908 the William Smith College for women was opened, and today the two schools have combined to form a single unified campus. Two of the schools’ buildings are said to be haunted, as are other spots around campus.
Smith Hall is home to a ghost who likes to walk around the roof early in the morning, generally around 3 AM. Objects in Hirshson Hall’s Room 304 have been known to fly off the shelves; the sounds of scratching and tapping are often heard as well, and the blinds will sometimes pull down of their own accord. Some have even reported seeing a ghost in the mirrors. Another spirit has been seen walking a dog in the quad area between the hours of 1 and 3 AM.
