Widow Susan Road is named for Susan Thomas, a woman married Harmanus DeGraff in 1838 and was widowed roughly ten years later with several children to raise on her own. Susan later relocated to Michigan, but her ghost still manifests on the road named after her in Amsterdam. Witnesses say that she wears an old-fashioned white dress and appears to be crying while searching for something. It is rumored that her husband was buried in the cemetery along Widow Susan Road while she herself was buried in Michigan, and that she is now restless because her body is so far removed from her husband’s.
