Fort Totten
Bayside, NY 11359
Fort Totten was originally built in 1862 to protect the East River approach to New York Harbor, and has been used by several different branches of the military in the time since. Today parts of the old fort are used by the FDNY and NYPD for training purposes, and others are open to the public for guided tours. The building is said to be haunted by several ghosts; visitors have heard footsteps, a voice speaking in a foreign language, and a woman’s voice in the restrooms. Others have seen the auditorium doors swing open by themselves and there have been reports of multiple apparitions.
