Fort Slongo Battlefield
10 Fort Salonga Road
Fort Salonga, NY 11768
Fort Salonga, NY 11768
This was the place of battleground between the British troops and American Revolutionary forces in October of 1781. The Americans wrestled the fort that once stood there from the British with only one injury to American troops. Sergeant Elijah Churchill was wounded during the battle.
Today, there's a marker on Route 25A to indicate where the battle occurred, but some believe there's more to it. Local residents have reportedly also heard sounds of active battle and gunshots during the early morning hours.
