Pilgrim Psychiatric Center - Real Brentwood Haunted Place

  • 998 Crooked Hill Rd.
  • Brentwood, NY
  • 631-761-3500
Many Long Islanders have heard of the Pilgrim Psychiatric Center, and even more have tried to explore it. The building dates back to October 1st, 1931, and at this time, it was the largest psychiatric hospital in the world. Its size has never been exceeded by any other facility, though it's now far smaller than it once was.

In the 1950's is when the hospital began to do lobotomies and electro-convulsive therapy (ECT), which may be the reason why the place is believed to be haunted. The spirits of those who once died here years ago are said to still linger.

In Building 45, the psych center hosts the Long Island Psychiatric Museum, which displays items such as newsletters, photos, relics from abandoned and demolished buildings, and other historical information. The museum is open to the public.
