Dundas Castle - Real Haunts in Roscoe NY

  • 609 Craigie Clair Rd.
  • Roscoe, NY
Also known as Craig-e-Clair, Dundas Castle in Roscoe dates back to the early 1900s. The castle was built for Ralph Wurts-Dundas by architect Bradford Gilbert and is closely modeled after Dundas Castle in Scotland. Gilbert created the summer retreat, Beaverkill Lodge after acquiring nearly 1,000 acres. Maria, the new wife of Gilbert, named the surrounding hamlet Craig-e-Clair which translates as "beautiful mountainside."

In 2001, the building and property were added to the National Register of Historic Places. The neo-Gothic style home that sits abandoned is rumored to be haunted by Gilbert's wife, who's ghost has been spotted walking around the property. Other claims report there are three ponds on the grounds that are all shaped like hearts and they fill with blood every full moon.
