Built in 1832 by the Mesereau family, this historic building now serves as a restaurant, wedding venue, party facility, and bed and breakfast. The building is said to be haunted by Martha Mesereau, whose husband went off to fight during the Civil War in 1860. Martha waited patiently for her husband’s return, watching from her bedroom window day and night, until one day she received word that he had died in battle. Heartbroken, Martha retreated to her bed and soon passed away as well. Evidently Martha is still waiting to be reunited with her husband, as guests have reported seeing her silhouette from her old bedroom window. Others have seen a spirit walking around the front of the inn, and restaurant workers have reported hearing strange noises and seeing locked doors open on their own. During a reconstruction period workers reported hearing unusual sounds coming from the original part of the mansion.
