Sleepy Hollow is a town that is full of ghostly happenings. Their cemetery is no exception. Although cemeteries are eerie to begin with, put it in a town like Sleepy Hollow and it is even creepier. The cemetery is home to a ton of famous bodies, including Washington Irving, the writer of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." The Cemetery has been listed on both the New York State and the National Registers of Historic Places.

The spirit that is most known to haunt the cemetery is the "Headless Horseman" - the figure that appears on horseback without a head. According to the cemetery's website, sources think the spirit is "that of a Hessian trooper, whose head had been carried away by a cannon-ball, in some nameless battle during the Revolutionary War." Sometimes his hauntings will not only be on the grounds of the cemtery, but on the roads nearby as well.

The cemetery is open for ghost tours for those who are interested in getting a closer look and education about the history of the location.
