Blithewood Mansion
Dutchess County, NY 12504
Built in 1900, Blithewood Mansion was originally the home of National Guard captain and real estate mogul Andrew Zabriskie. In 1951 it was donated to Bard College, which now uses it as a library and has converted a few rooms to accommodate classes. While still in the possession of Zbriskie, four statues were commissioned for the mansion’s garden, each depicting a different one of his four daughters. When one of his daughters died from falling out the window of a New York City apartment her statue went missing; locals say that in its stead her spirit has taken up residence, wandering about the property to this day.
